The Human Rights Master’s Program is aimed at examining the protection mechanisms of human rights at risk at national, regional and international level. The field of human rights is an interdisciplinary field. This area, which is at the intersection of law and humanities, embraces philosophical, historical and cultural contexts. So it offers versatile operation.
Many different human rights protection instruments have been developed, both nationally and internationally, but some of them are more effective than others. In this context, the protection system of European Human Rights Convention which include also Turkey, is the one of main study areas of the program. Of course, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Twin Covenants (the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR)) and various regional human rights instruments in contemporary international systems are also included in the program’s field of study.
The program also aims to shed light on the uncertainties and disagreements about the definition and scope of certain rights and their administrative practice. The main topics covered are: human rights institutions, national and international human rights protection documents and rights and freedoms, human rights mechanisms and national sovereignty relations, the effects of human rights and non-governmental organizations on human rights, cultural relevance of human rights, human rights and national security.
